  1.     By day, Suffield resident Ted Karam is like millions of other people in the working world. He gets dressed, kisses his wife and children, grabs his briefcase and heads to his job as Director of Engineering at Thales Broadcast and Multimedia in Southwick.

  2.     He interfaces with clients, hosts business luncheons and attends conferences all over the world.

  3.     “I love it.” he said. “I’m really into science and technology, and I’ve been working at Thales for about seven years now.”

  4.     But after work, Ted sheds his suit and tie, puts down his cell phone and miraculously turns himself into a spiritual life coach, helping others “move beyond fear, transcend self-imposed limitations and heal relationships in their personal and professional lives.”

  5.    Karam said he became fascinated with yoga and meditation many years ago, transforming his interest into a study of world religions, science and the workings of the human mind. Karam described his coaching as “holding a sacred space, creating an environment for personal transformation” that allows people to realize “greater success, peace, and fulfillment.”

  6.     Karam spent a number of years bringing his thoughts on happiness, peace and success in life to those in the corporate world. Now, he has brought those principles, and life lessons, to the Westfield Yoga Center on College Highway in Southwick, where he leads a 30-day “Journey Into Self” program for local residents.

  7.     “This 30-day program is designed to help you clearly identify what you want in life and create an action plan to attain it,” he said. “The action plan is comprised of both inner and outer components. The outer component will consist of defining clear goals with deadlines and practical steps to achieve your aim. The inner plan will consist of identifying and removing any limiting subconscious beliefs or habits that are holding you back.”

  8.     Karam said everyone carries habits and subconscious beliefs that often stand in the way of ultimate success, whether the goal be related to finances, health, or family harmony.

  9.     Through this process, Karam said his students harness the power of meditation, visualization, and autosuggestion to plant new seeds into their subconscious, infusing a mindset of “abundance and success.”

  10.     Karam said the focus of the course is simple - to help people remember their life’s passion, and find ways to achieve it.

  11.     “All I am is a mirror for people,” he said. “I am a friend who helps peel away all the layers, creating a safe space for people to open up about their hopes and fears. It’s all about awakening and transformation. I ask people what they want, and help them use the power of focus to achieve it.”

  12.     Karam said in today’s day and age, it is easy for people to become bogged down in life’s routine.

  13.     “So many of us are so busy taking care of the kids, working and paying the bills that we forget about the things we feel passionate about,” he said. Most of us are caught in jobs where we feel stuck and would like to make a change. There is so much untapped potential in all of us; this is a way to start releasing it.”

  14.     Karam said the purpose of his class is to help people align all their internal and external resources so they can change their lives in meaningful ways.

  15.     “You achieve these goals by reprogramming your subconscious,” he said. “You decide what you want from life, focus on it, and channel all your life energy into it. You have to expect that it will happen. See it happening. It’s about retuning our reality,, our perception, to attract people and opportunities that will help us fulfill our dreams.”

  16.     Karam’s class meets once a week for four weeks. The first week’s class is titled “Journey Into Self - Charting Your Course.” During this time, the students are asked a series of questions such as “Who are you?”  “Why are you here?” “What do you want?”

  17.     By the second week, the topic has changed to “Walking Through Walls - Getting Unstuck.” The topics during the second class focus on learning the difference between perception and reality, walking through the fear, and discovering what is holding you back from achieving true happiness and success.

  18.     During the third class, participants talk about “waking the power within”, “giving to receive” and how to give the “gift of forgiveness.”

  19.       The final class delves into issues such as “surrendering to the dance,” “dying into life” and “playing life to the fullest.” Karam said he does not spend a lot of class time lecturing, but instead encourages open discussion between the students, who are usually eager to share their stories, their hopes and their dreams.

  20.         Karam said he wants to help people in the community, giving them practical tools to get “unstuck,” setting goals and changing lifelong patterns. Karam said one of the most important aspects of his program is “focus.” Talking about a problem for one hour a week will not result in life-altering changes. He said it is necessary to do daily exercises, which he calls homework, to constantly reinforce the lessons taught in class each week.

  21.       “I am essentially their accountability partner,” said Karam. “When you set internal goals for yourself, there’s no one there holding you accountable. When no one holds you accountable, changing your life becomes a low priority.”

  22.       Karam said that to battle this problem, he encourages his students to call or email him during the week if they need advise, a shoulder to cry on or a few words of wisdom to keep them on the right track.

  23.       While Karam’s current class is already half way through the program, he does plan to hold another 30-day session in the near future.  Those looking for more information on Karam or his programs can check out his website www.chrysalispoint.com.

  24.       Karam said he is eager to continue holding the Journey Into Self classes.

  25.       “This makes me come alive,” he said. “Creating opportunities for folks in this area to change their lives is really amazing.”
